Benchmarking Employee Productivity
Revenue per employee is a company-level efficiency metric that varies significantly by industry, business model, and stage. Pure software companies (low COGS, high gross margin) naturally achieve higher revenue per employee than services businesses.
The productivity ratio (revenue/labour cost) should ideally be above 2ร for services businesses and above 3ร for product companies. Below 1.5ร means your team is generating less revenue than 1.5ร their cost โ which rarely leaves room for profit.
