Setting the Right Efficiency Target

Efficiency targets should reflect your business model. Product teams: measure feature value or story points per cost. Sales teams: revenue per $ of compensation. Engineering teams: story points or deployments per $ of labour. Services teams: billable revenue per $ of labour.

Efficiency naturally varies by team phase. A new team building foundational infrastructure may appear inefficient; a mature team on a proven product is faster. Set targets appropriate to team maturity.
